Just following talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders in Washington, D.C., special envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell will deliver the 2009 Mitchell Lecture at Colby College Thursday, October 22, at 7:30 p.m. in Lorimer Chapel. The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7 p.m. and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

In the lecture titled “Conflict Resolution: Reflections on Personal Experiences,” Mitchell will use examples from his experiences in Northern Ireland and the Middle East to discuss conflict resolution and take questions from the audience. According to an Oct. 15 Washington Post article, “Obama has set a goal of relaunching the [Mideast] peace talks by the end of the year. U.S. officials noted that Mitchell is continuing discussions in Washington with Israeli officials this week and Palestinian officials next week to keep probing whether there are ways around the impasse.”

Prior to the event, which is sponsored by the Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement, Mitchell will be available to talk with members of the media. For information, please contact Ruth Jacobs at 207-859-4353 or ruth.jacobs@colby.edu.
