Assistant Professor of Economics Finley Edwards is one of about 200 academics, students, and econ fans who play a new fantasy sport — Fantasy Economics. The game began as an April Fool’s joke at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis but soon became a fully functional game programmed with information from RePEc, a database with a ranking system of economists. Like conventional fantasy sports, IDEAS allows players to buy and sell economists on the open market with the ultimate goal of creating a top economics department.
