In 2013 William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Government L. Sandy Maisel presented material on the American Democratic Party at an international symposium in China, “Modern Political Party Management: Chinese and International Practices.” Due to intense interest in international political practices, Maisel was asked to contribute a chapter to a new publication, Modern Party Management: What Can Be Learned from International Practices. Maisel’s chapter, “The Democratic Party of the United States: Formal Rules; Influence Determined by Context,” covers the organization, structure, rules, and decision making of the American Democratic Party. The book was published in both English and Chinese by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (China) in March 2014.
