New York Times investigative reporter James Risen received the 2014 Lovejoy Award for courageous journalism at the College’s Lovejoy Convocation Oct. 5. Risen, who faces potential jail time for refusing to reveal confidential sources on a failed CIA operation, said in his address that it is critical for journalists to continue to expose government activities.

“Journalists have no choice but to fight back because if they don’t, they will become irrelevant,” he said.
