Loren McClenachan, Elizabeth and Lee Ainslie Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, is coeditor of Marine Historical Ecology in Conservation: Applying the Past to Manage for the Future, published by University of California Press in December 2014.

The volume is being hailed as a groundbreaking work that shows how historical ecology can be used to improve conservation and management efforts in the world’s oceans. The book focuses on four challenges that face marine scientists and conservationists: helping endangered species recover, conserving existing fisheries, restoring damaged ecosystems, and engaging the public in the efforts.

Up-to-date science is used in the successes and solutions that the book describes.
