Colby President Emeritus Bro Adams, chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) since July 2014, wants to shift some federal funding for humanities scholarship toward addressing contemporary national issues through an initiative unveiled Jan. 15 and titled “The Common Good: The Humanities in the Public Square.” Adams believes that humanities research should become more public-facing, as opposed to specialized and narrowly focused on topics primarily of interest to scholars.
