Craig Carlson ’86, chair of UC Santa Barbara’s ecology, evolution, and marine biology department, received the G. Evelyn Hutchinson Award from the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO). He was cited for accurately mapping variation in dissolved organic carbon and linking it to the dynamics of microbial communities.

The Hutchinson Award has been presented annually since 1982 in recognition of excellence in any aspect of limnology (the study of inland waters as ecological systems) or oceanography.
