Cathy D. Collins, Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor of Biology, is among 24 scientists to contribute to an article on habitat fragmentation published in March in the journal Science Advances. The research concluded that 70 percent of remaining forest in the world is within a kilometer of the forest’s edge and exposed to the effects of fragmentation. The article points to “an urgent need for conservation and restoration measures to improve landscape connectivity, which will reduce extinction rates and help maintain ecosystem services.” The article is available online.
