Elizabeth Leonard, the John J. and Cornelia V. Gibson Professor of History and author of Lincoln’s Forgotten Ally: Judge Advocate General Joseph Holt of Kentucky, is featured on the NPR program BackStory with the American History Guys on the 150th anniversary of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
In a show titled “Now He Belongs to the Ages,” Leonard talks about trials of conspirators following the assassination, where Holt was the prosecutor and the judge. Her segment of the show runs 10 minutes, beginning at minute 40 through the end of the program. Besides Leonard, who won the 2012 Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize for Lincoln’s Forgotten Ally, other notable Lincoln historians on the show include Terry Alford, Edward Steers, C. Wyatt Evans, Richard Wrightman Fox, and Martha Hodes.
