Professor of Art Véronique Plesch is coeditor of a new book, The Imaginary: Word and Image, published by the Brill | Rodopi imprint in May 2015. Editors Plesch, Claus Cluver, and Matthijs Engelberts have collected an intriguing study of the imaginary, a critical concept that has been theorized in various ways. In this collection the concept is explored as it manifests itself in encounters between the verbal and the visual. Illustration of texts, comic books based on paintings, books that deal with film or television—the collection explores new ground in an important and ongoing conversation. Plesch’s biography on the Brill webpage about the book notes that she is the current president of the International Association of Word and Image Studies.
