Colby recently announced a new partnership with YES Prep, an open-enrollment public charter school system in Houston that encourages students from low-income communities to achieve at the highest level. As an IMPACT affiliate, Colby will meet full demonstrated financial need and provide support for all admitted YES Prep students.

“We [YES Prep] are thrilled to welcome Colby College to the IMPACT Partnership program and to begin connecting our students with the incredible range of opportunities a Colby education provides,” Senior Director of College Initiatives Chad Spurgeon said. “Colby College has an impressive history as a pioneer in higher education, and we are extremely proud to partner with an institution so committed to ensuring that more students, from all different backgrounds, have access to a strong, liberal arts education.”

The College is dedicated to making the Colby experience accessible to the nation’s most talented students. Colby meets 100 percent of determined need—without including loans in financial aid packages—for all admitted students. There’s no fee to apply, and students are not required to complete additional writing requirements beyond the standard Common Application Essay. Partnerships, like the one with YES Prep, play a significant role in increasing accessibility to students from underrepresented backgrounds.

YES Prep comprises 15 schools and serves 10,000 junior high and high school students in disadvantaged communities throughout the Houston area. The program provides students with support from teachers, a rigorous academic curriculum and assessment, enrichment opportunities, and college counseling and support throughout the college career. Since its founding in 1998, YES Prep has seen 72 percent of its alumni either graduate from college or remain enrolled in a postsecondary institution, which compares favorably to the 8 percent of low-income students enrolled in or graduated from postsecondary programs nationally.
