Julie Millard, The Dr. Gerald and Myra Dorros Professor of Chemistry, has been named a fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Millard is one of 391 recently named fellows “whose efforts on behalf of the advancement of science or its applications in service to society have distinguished them among their peers and colleagues,” according to the association’s press release. A member of Colby’s faculty since 1991, Millard has mentored more than 70 students in her laboratory and published in the areas of DNA-small molecule interactions and leadership for women in science. Her contributions to undergraduate education include her non-majors textbook Adventures in Chemistry, which highlights the relevance of chemistry to everyday life, several pedagogical articles in the Journal of Chemical Education, and the development of novel and exciting courses at Colby. She was named a Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar by the Dreyfus Foundation in 2004.
