Two new trustees were elected to the board at Colby’s spring Board of Trustees meeting held April 22. Armando Bengochea and Tanya Williams P’20 will serve four-year terms as corporate trustees. They join a dynamic and active board of alumni, parents, and friends of the College.
Armando Bengochea joined the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in 2012 as program officer for diversity and director of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF). During his previous position as dean of the college and senior diversity officer at Connecticut College, he planned and executed, with the chief academic officer, a successful and rapid diversification of the faculty. As an undergraduate academic dean at Brown University, he worked with MMUF programs, created and oversaw the university’s first-year seminar program, and served as associate dean of the college. He was also a founding member of the Liberal Arts Diversity Officers group.
Tanya Williams P’20 is chief administrative officer, secretary-treasurer, and a director of R2T2 Laboratories, Inc. and a board-certified pediatrician. Since 2011 she has been an independent consultant providing health-related support services and advice to the private school community in New York City. She served as president of the Parents’ Association of Marymount School New York and as a member of the boards at the Marymount School and the Partnership for After School Education, a nonprofit in New York. Williams held a faculty appointment in the department of pediatrics at the Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, where she was director of the Child and Family Support Program. Her daughter is completing her first year at Colby.
