Two Colby College alumnae have been nominated to serve three-year terms as trustees, adding new strength to the College’s dynamic and active board. They are Sara Burns, a 1979 graduate, and Jessica D’Ercole Stanton, who graduated in 1992.
Burns, of Manchester, Maine, has worked at Central Maine Power (CMP) for 30 years, where she’s risen from manager of risk management to president and CEO, a position she has held since 2005. During her tenure, she oversaw a major restructuring of CMP after deregulation of the electrical industry in Maine in 1997 and is now responsible for more than 1,200 employees and more than 22,000 miles of power lines throughout central Maine. Burns serves on the boards of Maine & Company, the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, the Mitchell Institute, and the Augusta Board of Trade. Burns has been a guest lecturer and overseer at Colby. She and her husband, Bob Allen, have two grown sons.
Stanton lives in Wellesley, Mass., where she’s involved with a number of local nonprofits and boards leading environmental sustainability efforts as well as working with local homeless shelters and service organizations. Previously, she worked in the development office at MIT’s Sloan School of Management and with the annual fund at Babson College. Stanton has long been a leader at her alma mater, serving as an overseer, as chair of the College’s Alumni Council, and on planning and gift committees. She and her husband, Mike Stanton ’92, have two teenage children.
