Allen Island, in Muscongus Bay, Maine, is a “treasure trove for students seeking hands-on learning,” according to a story in the July 18 Bangor Daily News. Colby students, including incoming first-year students in the Colby Achievement Program in the Sciences, or CAPS, have access to Allen Island as a living laboratory for research in the sciences and the humanities. “They’re really making sure there is equal opportunity,” Connor Wilson ’21, of Johnson City, Tenn., told the BDN about the CAPS program. “It’s awesome, as someone who hasn’t even completed their freshman year, to do this,” he said.
