Whipple-Coddington Professor of Geology Robert Gastaldo provided context for the March 6 Image of the Day of the Sarawak River Delta on the island of Borneo, where Gastaldo studied in the early 1990s. In his narrative, he discusses the “snake-like nature and sharp turns of these waterways [which] resemble a painting when viewed from space,” he writes. “The causes of these patterns are rooted in nature,” he said.
