Professor of Biology Cathy Bevier has a new publication in the March 2018 Journal of Herpetology. Her paper, “The Effect of Parasite Infection on Phonotactic Response in the Mink Frog, Lithobates septentrionalis,” describes how hearing in mink frogs is affected by a parasite infection and the presence of the digenean flatworm, Halipegus eccentricus, which inhabits the eustachian tube. Bevier and her coauthor report that their “behavioral assay provides good evidence that infection by H. eccentricus affects a frog’s ability to localize and respond to a conspecific call.”
