Colby Undergraduate Research Symposium May 3-4

The second annual Colby Undergraduate Research Symposium will be held Thursday, May 3, and Friday, May 4, on the Waterville campus. Jonathan Foley, director of the Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment at the University of Wisconsin, will present the keynote address, "Human Activity and a Changing Biosphere: An Interdisciplinary Study of Planet Earth," at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, in room 1 of the F.W. Olin Science Center. All of the events are open to the public and free of charge.

Students from a range of programs and departments will present the results of their research in paper and poster presentations on the second floor of Roberts Building. On Thursday afternoon students will formally present research in the areas of natural and physical science, social science and education, and music. On Friday afternoon students will present research in the areas of environmental studies; science, technology and society; the humanities; environmental policy; international studies; and biology. Research posters will also be on display both days, with students available to answer questions from noon to 1 p.m. More than 200 students from 21 departments were involved in the symposium and its associated presentations.
