Free Concert by Al Corey’s Big Band July 8 at Colby Al Corey's Big Band will perform a free outdoor concert at Colby College in Waterville on Sunday, July 8, starting at 6 p.m. The concert will be held at the Gould Music Shell adjacent to the Colby baseball field and tennis courts. The public is invited to attend and is encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Corey's 16-piece group will play big band musical selections from Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Lawrence Welk, Count Basie, Les Brown, Duke Ellington and others. Jinnie Palmer will be performing as the featured vocalist. The band includes noted Maine musicians from Bangor, Portland, Rockland and other locations, who range in age "from twenty-three to gray hair," according to Al Corey. Corey has played in Maine and New England with various ensembles for more than 50 years since returning in 1946 from a musical tour in the armed services. This will be the 31st year that Al Corey's Big Band has performed the popular free concert at Colby. For more information call Colby's Office of Special Programs at (207) 872-3386. |
