Colby Wellness Lectures Open to Public

At Colby College in Waterville, a series of wellness lectures this fall will address topics of mental, emotional, social and physical well-being. Lectures are open to the public and are free of charge. Programs will discuss domestic abuse, multicultural society, alcohol consumption, stress and success. All of the programs will be held in the Page Commons Room in Cotter Union. For information contact Colby’s health center at (207) 872-3058.

Lectures scheduled for the fall semester include:

Mon., Sept. 3, at 8 p.m.
SHOC (Student Health on Campus)
Presents skits depicting campus health issues.

Wed., Sept. 5, at 8 p.m.
"Success by Choice," with Marlon Smith--"The 'High-Tech' Motivator"
Inspirational one-man multimedia show helps people maximize their potential.

*Postponed until February* Tues., Sept. 18, at 8 p.m.
"More Than A Few Good Men," with Jackson Katz
Lecture on American manhood and violence against women.
Katz inspires men and women to confront one of the most serious problems facing college students--men's violence against women. *Postponed until February*

Tues., Sept. 25, at 8 p.m.
"Living in a Multicultural America," with Kevin Powell
Author and cultural critic Powell is a former senior writer and editor for Vibe magazine. He frequently lectures on racism, sexism, pop culture, Black and American history, and the history of hip-hop.

Tues., Oct. 2, at 8 p.m.
"Personal Best Or Stress--The Ultimate Balancing Act," with Murray Banks
Humorous motivational presentation with tips to move beyond managing stress, to balancing stress to enhance performance.

Wed., Nov. 28, at 8 p.m.
"Four Stages of Drinking," with Mike Green
Green presents prevention/intervention techniques on dealing with peer pressure; personal responsibility and decision making; helping peers with a drinking problem; and gauging and setting limits.
