Colby Celebrates "Maine Women in the Visual Arts"

Island The Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville will celebrate "Maine Women in the Visual Arts" with an exhibit of works by more than 50 Maine women artists. An artists’ reception will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, to open the exhibit. Two women's a cappella singing groups, the Colbyettes and the award-winning Adelines from Waterville High School, will perform at the reception, which is open to the public. The exhibit will remain on view at the museum through December 28.

"Maine Women in the Visual Arts" is arranged in conjunction with the 16th Annual Maine Women's Studies Conference to be held at Colby November 3. The exhibit will feature works in a variety of media, including paintings, sculpture, fiber, book art, photographs, ceramics and printmaking, and it was organized by Bevin Engman, assistant professor of art.

On Thursday, November 15, exhibiting artists Gail Spaien and Honour Mack will present the panel discussion "Sources of Inspiration: On the Colby College Museum of Art's Maine Women Artists Exhibition." The 4 p.m. lecture will be held in the museum. Spaien and Mack are faculty members of the Maine College of Art.
