Sculptor Tom Butter to Speak at Colby

Internationally recognized artist and teacher Tom Butter will deliver a slide show lecture on his work at Colby College on Wednesday, November 28. The talk will begin at 4:30 p.m. in room 154 of the Bixler Art and Music Center.

Butter's sculptures have been shown extensively in Europe and the U.S. He uses the qualities of steel, fiberglass, wood and mirrors to create relationships between the forms and the space they occupy. A vibrant series of monotypes accompany and complement each sculpture in terms of balance and spatial relationships.

Butter received his bachelor's of fine arts degree from the Philadelphia College of Art and his master’s of fine arts degree from Washington University in Missouri. He currently teaches in the graduate program at Parsons School of Design in New York. Butter has also taught at the Rhode Island School of Design and was a visiting artist at the Vermont Studio School. His exhibition record includes solo exhibits at the late Grace Borgenicht's gallery in 1983 and 1984.

His recent New York exhibits have been with the Curt Marcus Gallery in New York. This October he had a solo exhibit at the Jaffe and Strauss Galleries in the Hopkins Center at Dartmouth College in N.H.
