Renowned Ornithologist Sibley at Bookstore Dec. 5

David Allen Sibley, renowned ornithologist and illustrator and author of the best-selling field guide National Audubon Society Sibley Guide to Birds will appear at The Colby College Bookstore in Roberts Building on the Waterville campus on Wednesday, December 5, for a book signing. The event begins at 4 p.m. and refreshments will be served. Sibley will sign both The Sibley Guide to Birds and his new book, The Sibley Guide to Bird Life and Behavior.

The Sibley Guide to Birds published by Alfred A. Knopf in 2000, has become the fastest selling bird book in history, earning Sibley the moniker "the Beatle of birding" among the press. The book now has more than 450,000 copies in print. "David Allen Sibley has been called the heir apparent to John James Audubon and Roger Tory Peterson," said Sibley's editor at Knopf, "and his long-awaited guidebook immediately became the gold standard for bird identification when it was published last fall."

Sibley's visit to the Colby Bookstore is the reward for wining a national book display contest sponsored by the book's publisher, Alfred A. Knopf, this past spring. Bookstores nationwide entered the contest, to feature The Sibley Guide to Birds in a bookstore display. Colby's display featured stuffed birds borrowed from the college's Biology Department and labeled from the guidebook.
