McIntyre Wins National Teaching Award

James R. McIntyre, of Waterville, was honored by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) on November 16 in Washington, D.C., where he was awarded the AATG/Goethe Institute's annual certificate of merit for outstanding achievement in furthering the teaching of German in the United States.

McIntyre, a professor of German at Colby College since 1976, earned his Ph.D. in German at Michigan State University. Besides teaching German he was director of career services at Colby for 10 years.

McIntyre was one of nine German teachers and professors in the nation to receive the prestigious award at the AATG's 2001 annual meeting. The certificate of merit has been presented annually since 1978.
