Reeves of NAACP to Speak at Colby January 24 Shannon Reeves, president of the Oakland, Calif., NAACP branch, will speak at Colby College in Waterville on Thursday, January 24. The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in the Page Commons Room of Cotter Union. Reeves, an African-American Republican, will discuss some of the experiences that have most influenced his life and political views. Reeves, currently in his third term as president of the Oakland NAACP, recently became the highest ranking African American in the history of the California Republican Party (CRP) with his election as secretary and member of CRP's board of directors. Reeves frequently appears on national television as a guest of shows such as Politically Incorrect, Fox News, The O'Reilly Factor and BET Tonight. Reeves is the founder, chairman and CEO of the Freedom Fund, a non-profit organization that revitalizes urban areas. Freedom Fund forms partnerships with the private sector in inner-city commercial ventures, reinvesting all profits in the local community. Reeves also serves on the boards of the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and the Commonwealth Club of California. The lecture is sponsored by the Young America's Foundation. |
