"The Pinter Festival" at Colby, September 15 and 16

The Department of Theater and Dance at Colby College in Waterville will launch its 2000-01 performance season with a celebration of the 70th birthday of British playwright Harold Pinter. "The Pinter Festival" will be held Friday, September 15, and Saturday, September 16, with a 4 p.m. performance in the Cellar Theater and a 7:30 p.m. performance in the Strider Theater nightly. Both theaters are located in the Runnals Performing Arts Center.

Pinter (b. 1930) is considered one of the most complex and challenging contemporary dramatists. His plays are noted for their witty and surreal use of conversation and their understated yet devastating depiction of human power structures. Anna-Michelle Young ’02 (McLean, Va.) will direct the 4 p.m. performances of Pinter’s The Dumb Waiter starring Stuart Luth ’01 (Marlboro, N.J.) and Noah Charney ’02 (New Haven, Conn.). Lauren Schaad ’01 (Sherborn, Mass.) will direct Mountain Language. Seating in the Cellar Theater is limited.

The 7:30 p.m. performances of The Lover, Ashes to Ashes and Victoria Station, are directed by Robert Gordon and star professional actors Lisa Brancaccio, the daughter of Pat and Ruth Brancaccio of Waterville, and Torben Brooks. Actor and scholar Gordon is chair of the drama department at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and a professor in the Colby in London theater program. Brancaccio and Brooks both hold master’s degrees in acting from New York University and live in New York.

General admission is $3; students and seniors are $2. For ticket information call the box office at (207) 872-3358 between 4-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday of performance weeks. Or call (207) 872-3388 between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets may be reserved online at www.colby.edu/theater.
