Friends of Art to Tour On Friday, April 5, the Colby College Museum of Art's Friends of Art will tour the "Impressionist Still Life" exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. The trip is available to the general public and includes free time for lunch and to explore the museum. After the audio tour of "Impressionist Still Life," transportation to Copley Place will be provided for shopping and dinner before the return trip to Waterville. "Impressionist Still Life," the first major exhibition devoted to French Impressionist still-life painting, traces the Impressionist movement from its origins in the Realism of Courbet through its transformation in the late work of Ce9;zanne. Highlights of the 90-work exhibit include two remarkable still lifes by Monet never before seen in the United States and 14 works by Ce9;zanne, one of Impressionisms greatest still-life painters. A bus will leave from Colby's Roberts Building parking lot at 7 a.m., and is expected to leave Boston at 6:30 p.m. that evening. The cost for the trip is $50 per person and registration should be made by Wednesday, March 20. For reservations or further information, contact Alice Fitzgerald at 207-872-3228. |
