Colby Symphony Orchestra in Concert March 16

On Saturday, March 16, the Colby Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Associate Professor of Music Jonathan Hallstrom, will perform its first concert of the spring season. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Colby's Lorimer Chapel on the Waterville campus. Part of the 2001-02 Music at Colby concert series, the event is open to the public and free of charge.

The concert program will feature the two winners of the Music Department's annual concerto competition. Flutist Rebecca White, a sophomore from Beverly, Mass., will perform the first movement of Mozart's Flute Concerto in G Major. Clarinetist Faith Barker, a senior from Stoneham, Maine, will perform Witold Lutoslawski's Dance Preludes for clarinet and chamber orchestra. Also included on the program will be Aaron Copland's El Salon Mexico and Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 5.

Maine's largest college orchestra, the Colby Symphony Orchestra includes student, faculty and community musicians. For information about this year's schedule of Music at Colby events contact Diane Kadyk at 207-872-3236.
