Old Master Prints Exhibit at Colby Museum
Prints in the exhibit include book illustrations, games, maps and traditional artists prints. The exhibit was organized by students in Colby's museum exhibition seminar on printmaking under the direction of art professors Ve9;ronique Plesch and Michael Marlais. Students selected prints from the museum's permanent collection, the Colby library's Special Collections and some private collections. They then researched artists, subject matter and technique, designed the exhibition and wrote scholarly texts for the exhibits catalogue and to accompany each print on view. Also on exhibit at the museum are an exhibition of sculptures and drawings by Harriett Matthews, woodcarvings in the Maine Carvers Exhibition, and The Joan Whitney Payson Collection--26 works by world-famous Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists, including Courbet, Daumier, Monet and Renoir. Colby museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, and the museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. For information call (207) 872-3228 or visit www.colby.edu/museum. |
