At Colby, Engerman Examines Sanctions and Blockades

The annual Grossman Lecture in economics will be held Thursday, April 4, at Colby College in Waterville. Stanley Engerman, professor of economics and history at Rochester University, will deliver the lecture "Economic Aspects of Sanctions and Blockades" at 8 p.m. in room 01 of the F.W. Olin Science Center. The event is open to the public and free of charge.

Engerman's research is in the areas of American, Caribbean and British economic history, particularly the economics of slavery and its aftermath in the United States and the Caribbean. He is the author of numerous articles and books including The Cambridge Economic History of the United States, Terms of Labor, The Transatlantic Slave Trade: Effects on Economics, Societies and People in Africa, the Americas and Europe, and Time On The Cross, an examination of the economics of slavery in the United States. Engerman holds a Ph.D. in economics from Johns Hopkins University and both a bachelor's and a master's degree from New York University.
