Mystery Writer Robert B. Parker at Colby, September 24 On Sunday, September 24, at 7 p.m. Colby College in Waterville will present "An Evening with Robert B. Parker." Mystery writer Robert B. Parker, best known for his series with Boston private eye Spenser, will give a talk and answer questions. The program will be held in the Page Commons Room of Cotter Union and a 6:15 p.m. book signing in the adjacent Pugh Center will precede the event. The talk and book signing are open to the public free of charge. Parkers latest novel, Perish Twice, to be released in October, features the return of female private eye Sunny Randall, who made her debut in 1999 in Family Honor. Family Honor will be made into a film starring Helen Hunt in the near future. Parkers most recent Spenser novel, Hugger Mugger, was released in April and was a national bestseller. Parker began writing his Spenser novels in 1971 while teaching at Northeastern University. The fictional Spenser inspired the ABC-TV series "Spenser: For Hire." In 1999 Parkers novel Small Vices was made into a television film for the A&E network. Parkers other works include Poodle Springs, a novel completed from an unfinished manuscript by Raymond Chandler, and Perchance to Dream, a sequel to Chandlers The Big Sleep. A native of Massachusetts, Parker graduated from Colby in 1954, served with the Army in Korea, and completed a Ph.D. in English at Boston University. He and his wife, Joan (Colby Class of 1954), co-founded Pearl Productions, a Boston-based independent film company named after their short-haired pointer, Pearl, who has been featured in several of Parkers novels.
