Colby Collegium Musicum to Perform Music of Bach

Collegium Musicum, Colby's early music group, will present its spring concert, "Passion and Glorification in J.S. Bach's Music," on Saturday, April 27. The 7:30 p.m. concert will be held in Lorimer Chapel on the Waterville campus and is open to the public free of charge.

The concert program will feature Bach's Cantata no. 4, Christ lag in Todesbanden and the Magnificat. Cantata no. 4 was written for Easter and addresses the dark side of Lent as well as the exuberance of Easter. With the Magnificat, Bach provides music for a festive Vesper celebration. The singers will be joined by an instrumental chamber ensemble of strings, woodwinds, trumpets and timpani.

Directed by Eva Linfield, associate professor of music, the Collegium Musicum is a 25-member ensemble of students and a few faculty members who perform music from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the Baroque periods.
