Contemporary Works on Paper at Colby Museum

Volume More than 100 works on paper are at the Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville April 28 through June 30 as part of the exhibit "Drawn From a Family: Contemporary Works on Paper." The exhibit consists of works drawn exclusively from three collectors within one family. An opening reception will be held Sunday, April 28, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

The exhibit's works include watercolors, gouaches, charcoal drawings, collages, ink and pencil drawings, and mixed media works. While the art is diverse in size, subject matter and format, an underlying aesthetic unites the three collections.

More than 40 contemporary artists are represented in "Drawn From a Family" including Jasper Johns, Elizabeth Murray, Jörg Immendorff, Hermann Nitsch, Gerhard Richter, Terry Winters, Sol LeWitt, Vik Muniz, Richard Deacon, Cecily Brown, Eve Aschheim, Margaret Neill, Richard Artschwager, Rosemarie Trockel and Kiki Smith.

Also currently on view at the museum are the annual Student Art Exhibition and The Joan Whitney Payson Collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist Art. Colby museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 2 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, and the museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. For information call 207-872-3228 or visit www.colby.edu/museum.
