Volunteers Fan Out for "Colby Cares Day" April 27

More than 100 Colby College students, staff, faculty and family volunteers are already signed up for the sixth annual Colby Cares Day, which will take place in the greater Waterville area on Saturday, April 27. More than 15 community service projects are planned, according to Megan Gossling of the Colby Volunteer Center (CVC). The event is co-sponsored by the CVC, which coordinates student volunteer activities throughout the year, and Colby's Student Government Association.

This year, volunteers will take part in projects with organizations such as the Waterville Boys & Girls Club, Waterville Park and Recreation, Humane Society-Waterville Area, REM, Goudreau’s Nursing Home, Belgrade Parks Association, Maine Children’s Home, The Mid-Maine Interfaith Homeless Shelter, Rape Crisis-Waterville and others.

Colby Cares Day is the culmination of National Volunteer Week, April 21-27, an annual celebration of volunteerism at the local, state and national levels. The theme for National Volunteer Week 2002 is "Celebrate the American Spirit--VOLUNTEER!"
