Women's Crew Second in NCAA National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- Colby College's women's crew team took second place in the NCAA Division III national women's rowing championship in Indianapolis this weekend. The Colby varsity eight boat finished fourth and the junior varsity finished seventh to give Colby 11 points in the Division III points trophy results. Williams College (Mass.) finished first in Division III when its boats took first and eighth for nine points.

William Smith College (N.Y.) was third, Ithaca College (N.Y.) fourth, Pacific Lutheran College (Calif.) fifth, and Smith College (Mass.) sixth in Division III. This was the first year that the NCAA had a Division III women's crew championship. Races were held at Eagle Creek Reservoir with Indiana University and the United States Rowing Association as co-hosts. "Things went very, very well for us, " said Colby Coach Stewart Stokes. "It's a great accomplishment for the women's crew and the entire Colby crew program. It was the first ever NCAA Division III women's rowing championship so it was a rather historic day, and for Colby to be second overall was great." Full results of the race including times are online at www.row2k.com and a press release is online at www.iuhoosiers.com/ncaa/rowing/satrelease.html
