Free Concert by Al Corey's Big Band July 14 Al Corey's Big Band will perform a free outdoor concert at Colby College in Waterville on Sunday, July 14, starting at 6 p.m. The concert will be held at the Gould Music Shell adjacent to the Colby baseball field and tennis courts. The public is invited to attend and is encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Corey's 16-piece group will play big band musical selections from Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Lawrence Welk, Count Basie, Les Brown, Duke Ellington and others. Their repertoire of songs includes classic tunes like "One O'Clock Jump," "Moonlight Serenade" and "In the Mood." The band is made up of noted musicians from throughout Maine who range in age "from twenty-three to gray hair," according to Al Corey. Guest vocalists joining the band at the July 14 concert will include Ilina Cruz and twin sisters Chris and Meredith Thompson of Providence, R.I. Corey has played in Maine and New England with various ensembles for more than 50 years since returning in 1946 from a musical tour in the armed services.
