Jeff Drumtra of U.S. Committee for Refugees at Colby Oct. 8

Jeff Drumtra, senior policy analyst on Africa for the U.S. Committee for Refugees (USCR), will give the lecture "In Search of Human Rights: Africa's 13 Million Uprooted People" on Tuesday, October 8, at Colby College in Waterville. The event is part of the Oak Human Rights Lecture Series. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Room 01 of the F.W. Olin Science Center and is open to the public free of charge.

Drumtra has worked with USCR for nine years, covering issues related to uprooted people across Africa. Prior to joining USCR, Drumtra was editor of Worldview Magazine and worked as a legislative aide to Congress. USCR is a non-partisan organization dedicated to defending the rights of all uprooted people regardless of their nationality, race, religion, ideology or social group. Founded in 1958, it works for refugee protection and assistance in all regions of the world.

The Oak Institute for the Study of International Human Rights hosts a yearly Oak Human Rights Fellow to teach and conduct research while in residence at the College; the Institute also organizes lectures and other events centered around the fellow's area of expertise. The 2002 Oak Human Rights Fellow is Ushari Mahmud, who has worked for the past 15 years to document and protest human rights abuses in his home country of Sudan.
