"Dance Invitational" at Colby, October 7

The Department of Theater and Dance at Colby College in Waterville will present a dance invitational on Saturday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Strider Theater of the Runnals Performing Arts Center.

Tina Wentzel, adjunct professor of theater and dance at Colby, will direct the performance. The national and international performers include Wentzel, Heidi Henderson, Joan Meggitt, Doug Lodge and Holly Labbe Russell. Wentzel said, "From whimsy to raucous to tender, these pieces encompass much of what is enduring about the human spirit."

Henderson, a Skowhegan native who graduated from Colby in 1983, has danced and taught internationally. Her own works have been performed in New York City, Boston and at the Jacobs Pillow Inside/Out Festival. In 1997 she performed two solos in the International Festival of Dance in Korea. She currently teaches at Roger Williams University.

Choreographer, teacher and performer Meggitt has been a lecturer at Case Western Reserve University and a guest artist at Allegheny College. Allegheny’s dance program recently commissioned two works from Meggitt. Lodge, a long time collaborator with Meggitt, has homesteaded in the Alleghany Mountains for 20 years. He also is a roofer specializing in historic slate roofing.

Russell, a 1994 Colby graduate, is a choreographer, teacher and performer from Augusta. She earned her MFA in dance from Case Western Reserve. Her recent works include co-choreographing "Dreamwalk" at Colby in 1999 with Wentzel.

General admission is $3; students and seniors are $2. For ticket information call the box office at (207) 872-3358 between 4-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday of performance weeks.
