Researcher on Human Rights at Colby November 6

Jemera Rone, researcher on Sudan for the Human Rights Watch organization, will present the lecture "Oil, War, Human Rights and the Peace Process" at Colby College in Waterville on Wednesday, November 6. Rone’s lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Room 01 of the F.W. Olin Science Center. It is part of Colby's Oak Human Rights Lecture Series and is open to the public free of charge.

Rone is an attorney and practiced law for 10 years before joining Human Rights Watch in 1985. She specializes in international humanitarian law (rules of war)and has been the Sudan researcher at HRW since 1993. She has authored four book-length reports on human rights abuses in Sudan and is currently completing a fifth on the impact of oil development. Rone opened the first Human Rights Watch office outside the United States, in El Salvador, and has investigated human rights abuses all over the world.
