Steven Whitfield to Discuss Pentagon Papers March 3

Steven Whitfield, an American studies professor at Brandeis University, will deliver the lecture "National Security vs. Freedom of Information: The Case of the Pentagon Papers" on Monday, March 3, at Colby College. The lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Robins Room of Roberts Building on the Waterville campus. A reception will follow. The talk and the reception are open to the public and free of charge.

Whitfield's academic expertise is in the politics and culture of the 20th century. He is the author of eight books, including, In Search of American Jewish Culture, The Culture of the Cold War and A Death in the Delta: The Story of Emmett Till. Whitfield has taught in Brandeis's Department of American Studies since 1972 and he currently holds the Max Richter Chair in American Civilization. He has taught as a Fulbright visiting professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium and twice has taught as a visiting professor of American Studies at the Sorbonne (University of Paris IV).

Whitfield's talk is sponsored by the Herbert Carlyle Libby Fund, the Cultural Events Committee, the History Department and the American Studies Department.
