Ira Sadoff to Read Poetry at Colby April 8

Poet and Colby professor Ira Sadoff will read selections of poems from Barter, his most recent collection, on Tuesday, April 8, at Colby College in Waterville. The poetry reading will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Robins Room of Roberts Building and will be followed by a book signing with the author. It is open to the public and free of charge.

Barter is Sadoff's seventh collection of poems. His other collections include Grazing, nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, and Emotional Traffic. The Ira Sadoff Reader contains a selection of his stories, essays and poems, which have appeared in such publications as The New Yorker, American Poetry Review, Esquire and The Nation. Sadoff is also the author of the novel Uncoupling. His work has been widely anthologized, including in The Best Poems of 2002 (Scribner), Harper American Literature and Poets of The New Century (Godine).

Pulitzer Prize winning-poet Gerald Stern said, "Ira Sadoff is a master of language, concentration, of vision, of knowledge, of irony. If there are ten important poets writing in English today, he is one of them."

Sadoff has received awards from the Poetry Society of America and The American Poetry Review and fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. He is currently the Dana Professor of Poetry at Colby where he has taught since 1977. He previously taught in the graduate MFA programs at the Iowa Writers Workshop, the University of Virginia and Warren Wilson College.

This event is sponsored by the Colby Bookstore.
