Washington Post Journalist E. J. Dionne at Colby April 13

Washington Post columnist and award-winning author E. J. Dionne will speak at Colby College in Waterville on Sunday, April 13, as part of the Goldfarb Lecture Series. The 7:30 p.m. event will be held in Room 100 of Lovejoy Building and is open to the public free of charge. The lecture will be preceded by the initiation of juniors into the Pi Sigma Alpha political science honor society and the awarding of department honors.

The Sunday Independent of London listed Dionne as one of the 40 most influential thinkers of our time. His areas of expertise include community, civil society, public opinion and the role of religion in public life. Dionne spent 14 years with The New York Times before joining The Washington Post, first as a reporter and then as an op-ed columnist. Dionne's best-selling book, Why Americans Hate Politics, won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and was a National Book Award nominee. He has been a frequent commentator on politics for National Public Radio, CNN and NBC's Meet the Press. Dionne is a senior fellow in governance studies at the Brookings Institution and his op-ed column is currently syndicated in more than 90 newspapers around the country.

The Goldfarb Lecture Series is sponsored by Colby's Department of Government through a gift from William Goldfarb '68. Every year a committee of faculty members and students chooses a common theme for the Goldfarb lectures.
