Foreign Policy Expert to Speak at Colby April 28

On Monday, April 28, Ivo Daalder will speak at Colby College in Waterville. Daalder, a senior foreign policy scholar at the Brookings Institution, served on Bill Clinton's National Security Council. The lecture will begin at 8 p.m. in the Page Commons Room of Cotter Union. It is open to the public and free of charge.

Daalder is a specialist in American foreign policy, European security and national security affairs. He is frequently interviewed on National Public Radio and the Lehrer Newshour for his analyses of U.S. foreign policy in Iraq and the growing transatlantic divide over this and other foreign policy issues. Daalder is the author or co-author of nine books, including the recently published Protecting the Homeland, in which he offers recommendations on creating a more effective homeland security system. His articles have appeared in numerous journals and the opinion pages of leading American and European newspapers.

From 1995 through 1996 Daalder served as director for European affairs at the National Security Council and coordinated U.S. policy in Bosnia. He currently holds the Sydney Stein Jr. Chair in International Security at the Brookings Institution, acting as senior fellow in foreign policy studies.
