A series of string quartet concerts will be held July 29 through August 9 at Colby College in Waterville. The August 5 concert will feature Mozart's "String Quartet in G Major, K.387," emeritus music professor Peter Re9;'s "String Quartet No. 1 (1956)" and Brahms's "String Quartet in C minor, Op.51, No. 1."

The concerts are open to the public free of charge. The workshop attracts a select group of musicians from around the world who spend two weeks at Colby in July and August in an intensive schedule of rehearsals, coaching sessions and master classes.

The Portland String Quartet includes violist Julia Adams, violinists Stephen Kecskemethy and Ronald Lantz and cellist Paul Ross. The group was founded in 1969 and currently is celebrating its 34th season without a change in personnel. The ensemble has played together longer than any U.S. quartet. The quartet has established a reputation for strong performances on its international tours, and its recordings have won a variety of honors.
