Experts Debate National Security and Iraq at Colby Nov. 10

On Monday, November 10, Colby College's Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement will hold the panel discussion "Debating National Security: Lessons from Iraq." The event will examine U.S. policy in the Middle East following the Iraq war. The event begins at 4 p.m. in Room 100 of Lovejoy Building on the Waterville campus and is open to the public free of charge.

Johanna Mendelson Forman will present brief opening remarks based on her observations during a recent inspection visit to Iraq. Forman was a member of the Center for Strategic and International Studies' five-person team that went to Iraq and reported on U.S. progress there. Following her remarks Congressman Tom Allen and Ken Rodman, Colby's William R. Cotter Distinguished Teaching Professor of Government, will offer comments before opening the floor for discussion. Rodman's areas of expertise include U.S. foreign policy, economic sanctions, the United Nations and nuclear weapons proliferation.

The event is part of the People Speak project organized by the U.N. Foundation and a coalition of other groups interested in stimulating a nation-wide discussion on U.S. foreign policy.
