ABC Reporter Dan Harris '93 to Talk at Colby Nov. 13

On Thursday, November 13, ABC News reporter Dan Harris will discuss his experience covering the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The event begins at 4 p.m. and will be held in Room 14 of Miller Library on the Waterville campus. The event is sponsored by Colby's Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement and is open to the public free of charge.

Harris, a member of Colby's Class of 1993, is one of ABC News's most visible journalists, reporting regularly for World News Tonight With Peter Jennings, Good Morning America and Nightline. Over the past several years, he has reported from Ground Zero, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and most recently, Iraq.

Harris has covered most of the major news stories of the last two years for ABC News. After the September 11th terrorist attacks, he reported from the World Trade Center's Ground Zero. When the war started in October 2001, he filed live reports from Islamabad, Pakistan. That November Harris was one of the only American journalists to report from Taliban-controlled territory during the war. In December, he covered the joint U.S./Afghan siege of Tora Bora, the cave complex where Osama bin Laden was believed to have been hiding. Finally, Harris was one of the first Western reporters allowed into the tribal areas of Pakistan to cover the continuing hunt for bin Laden.

A government major at Colby, Harris began his journalistic career as a reporter for Bangor's NBC affiliate, WLBZ. By 1995 he was an anchor and political reporter at NBC's WCSH in Portland. From 1997 to 2000, Harris was an anchor for the largest regional news network in the United States, New England Cable News. In 2000, he joined ABC News as a correspondent based in New York.
