Panel Discussion on Poverty in Central Maine January 22

On Thursday, January 22, at 10:30 a.m. a panel discussion on poverty in central Maine will be held at Colby College in Waterville. The discussion will be held in room 014 of Miller Library and is organized by Colby economics students who are constructing a statistical abstract of the greater Waterville area. The event is sponsored by Colby's Economics Department and the Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement. It is open to the public and free of charge.

Participants in the panel will include Sue Goss, director of the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter; Tracy Schloss, a 2003 graduate of Colby and program coordinator for the Greater Waterville Area Communities for Children; Alison Jones Webb, president of Webb Management Services; and Sharon Lee, family advocate for the Waterville Pre-Kindergarten Program. Panel members will discuss homelessness, the effects of poverty on youth living in the area and the struggles of trying to make ends meet while working a minimum wage job.
