Colby Wind and Jazz Ensembles Perform in November The Colby Wind and Jazz Ensembles, under the direction of Eric Thomas, will each present a concert during the month of November at Colby College in Waterville. The Colby Wind Ensemble will perform on Saturday, November 4, at 7:30 p.m., and the Colby Jazz Ensemble will perform on Saturday, November 11, at 7:30 p.m. Both concerts will be held in Lorimer Chapel and are open to the public free of charge. On Saturday, November 4, the Wind Ensemble will present a concert titled "Music from Cartoons, Films, Movies and Musicals," featuring film scores, presidential marches, religious compositions and more. The performance, a celebration of the 20th century’s love for music of pomp and circumstance, will include selections from the films Gertie the Dinosaur and Jurassic Park. On Saturday, November 11, the Jazz Ensemble will give its annual fall concert, featuring both classic compositions and raucous stylings. "Strange Arrangements, Great Composers and the Vibraphone" will showcase a multitude of arrangements with works by Louis Armstrong, Richard Rodgers, Duke Ellington and others. The featured soloist of the evening will be vibraphonist Phoebe Lehmann '01 (Storrs, Conn.). The Colby Jazz Ensemble features student performers, and the Colby Wind Ensemble includes student, faculty and staff musicians.
