Still Lifes by Engman On View at Colby Museum

On February 8 an exhibit of still-life paintings by Bevin Engman will open at the Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville and will remain on view through March 21. The exhibit will feature 16 paintings by Engman, including oil on wood panels and several gouache collages. An opening reception will be held at the museum Sunday, February 8, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and is open to the public.

Engman, associate professor of art at Colby, creates paintings of quiet, contemplative power. The central motif in her art--books arranged on a surface--permits explorations of light, place and time. Engman's art explores thresholds of perception, and her attention to detail, color and surface helps illuminate the nuances of the perceived world.

Colby museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, and the museum is accessible to persons with disabilities. For more information call 207-872-3228 or visit www.colby.edu/museum.
