Surasena and Sri Lankan Dance Troupe at Colby, October 28

Peter Surasena, a grandmaster of the Kandyan dance tradition of Sri Lanka, and his troupe will perform at Colby College in Waterville on Saturday, October 28, at 7:30 p.m. The dance performance will be held in the Page Commons Room of Cotter Union and is open to the public free of charge.

Surasena is an internationally recognized instructor of the Kandyan style of dance, a traditional art form that originated in the ancient royal court of Kandy in Sri Lanka. Surasena’s premier troupe includes two additional dancers as well as two drummers. He has performed for audiences worldwide.

The event is co-sponsored by the Intercollegiate Sri Lanka Education program, Colby’s Cultural Events Committee, Asian Cultural Society, International Affairs office, Colby Dancers and the college’s departments of theater and dance, anthropology, religious studies and East Asian studies.
